ADDICTION & COMPULSIONS
You may feel caught in patterns of behaviour that are difficult to stop, even when you understand their impact. This might include alcohol or substance use, compulsive sexual behaviour, pornography use, gambling, or other behaviours that temporarily relieve distress but create longer‑term problems.
Often these behaviours develop as ways of coping with emotional pain, trauma, stress, or unmet needs. You may feel shame, frustration, or fear about what these patterns say about you, or worry about how they are affecting your relationships, work, or health.

I work from a non‑judgemental, compassionate perspective that focuses on understanding what these behaviours are doing for you, rather than blaming or moralising. I draw on approaches such as Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and SMART Recovery‑informed principles.
Some behaviours are increasingly understood as compulsions rather than addictions. Regardless of terminology, therapy can help you build insight, emotional regulation, and alternative ways of responding to distress.
If addiction or compulsive behaviours are impacting your life and you would like support, you are welcome to arrange a free 20‑minute online or telephone consultation.
